2010 D.C. and Maryland Legislative Update

6/29/10 - Rees Broome, PC, is very pleased to announce that it is celebrating its 36th anniversary by opening a new office in Bethesda, Maryland, to better serve its Maryland clients. This will be the firm’s third office, with the others in Tysons and Gainesville, Virginia. The new office will formally be launched on July 6, 2010.

The Bethesda office is located at 4800 Hampden Lane, a block off Wisconsin Avenue in the heart of Bethesda.  The firm plans to focus on development of its Community Association and litigation practices by offering Maryland clients the quality of legal services and responsive attention to its clients that has been its standard since it first opened in Tysons in 1974.

Bill Daly, who is currently Vice President of the Fairfax Bar Association, recently received a 2010 President's Award in appreciation of his dedication and outstanding service to the FBA.. The actual presentation was made at the June 9th Annual Meeting Luncheon.

Rees Broome is very pleased to announce a new partner and a new Senior Counsel. Our new partner, James M. Lewis, formerly with McGuire Woods and with Holland & Knight, has joined our Corporate Group. Jim specializes in bankruptcy, corporate law and employment issues. Our new Senior Counsel, Robert W. Wooldridge, Jr., has had a distinguished legal career. A partner at McGuire Woods from 1979 - 1992, he became a judge on Virginia's 19th Judicial Circuit (Fairfax County) in 1992 and served until his retirement last summer. He is a former president of the Fairfax Bar, a former member of the Virginia State Bar Council and has served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Legal Services Corporation of Northern Virginia. He also serves as a Senior Lecturer in Law at George Mason School of Law.

5/9/08 - Corporate partner Joel Birken was named on the front page of the first issue of Virginia Lawyer's new publication "Business Law Bulletin of Virginia." The case, Rush v Sunrise Senior Living Inc., involves a first-impression Virginia issue of whether a former corporate officer is entitled to copies of "all documents created, received, reviewed or maintained" during the officer's employment. The Fairfax Circuit Judge hearing the case, Robert Wooldridge Jr, "appointed Fairfax lawyer Joel Birken as a special commissioner to review...material enumerated in Rush's requests."
